Character Association Studies for Kernel Yield and Its Attributing Traits in Maize

Correlation coefficient measures the strength of relationship between independent traits on dependent trait like yield, that helps breeder in selection for yield enhancement. In this view, present experiment was carried out to assess correlation and path analysis using twelve quantitative traits. Eleven lines, four testers their 44 crosses along with five checks were evaluated simple lattice design during rabi 2021-22. Analysis variance revealed significant differences among entries all characters under study, suggested presence substantial amount genetic variability. studies specifies plant height, ear placement length, girth, kernel rows per ear, number kernels row, 100-kernel weight exhibited positive association themselves at genotypic phenotypic levels, signifying importance these selection. Path highest direct effects by row days 50% tasseling. As a result, current study could aid reliable parental lines based traits, as well development high yielding varieties future breeding programs.
